Wood Turned Sun Clock

I have had some maple wood set aside to make a mid century modern sun clock. I started this clock by wood turning 12 spindles. I then made a segmented hub from wood of the same maple tree. I drilled 12 holes in this hub to receive the tenon on each spindle. This allowed the spindles to radiate out like rays from the hub. I did a final turning of the hub and spindles together on the lathe to make a space for the clock. I think this helps to tie the whole piece together.

  1. The turning out of the radial spindles where they blend with the face is exquisite, but I wished that some glue / saw dust had been used to fill all of the gaps in the clock face. For whatever reason, the wood filler didn't quite get the job done.
